 The Raglan Area School ‘SurfingAcademy’ students are once again hosting the annual NZ Schools Surfing Championships. This competition is different to the National Scholastics in that any surfer from any school can enter as long as there are no more than 10 entries from each school. The top 4 places from each school will determine who wins the ‘Team Championship Points’.
The divisions are proudly sponsored by RIP CURL (U18 Boys), VOLCOM (U16 Boys)
REEF (U14 Boys), and ROXY (U18 Girls).
All finalists will receive heaps of prizes and a trophy. There will also be
lots of spot prizes and fun competition giveaways, once again sponsored by
BACKDOOR SURFSHOP.
The Raglan Surfing Academy
students are not permitted to enter the comp as they are running the entire
event. The competition will run on the 23rd and 24thth of August. Registration
will be Monday night. 6:30pm at the school hall. All teams must attend. The
postponement days of the 25th and 26th of August are in case the surf is
unsuitable. Two day’s notice will be given on the ‘Surfing NZ’ web site if
there is a need for postponement.
There are limited numbers. Last year the draw was full 2 weeks before
competition day so be quick. First paid entries will have priority. No entries
will be allowed on the day as the draw will be finalized 3 days prior to the
event.
There is plenty of accommodation this time of year in Raglan. The most
reasonably priced accommodation is the Kopua Holiday
