LA JOLLA, CA – July 23, 2010 -- The International Surfing Association (ISA), the world governing authority of surfing, announced today the 2011 Quiksilver ISA World Junior Surfing Championship will be held in wave rich Costa Verde, Lima, Peru from April 30 to May 8, 2011.
“We selected Peru for the 2011 Quiksilver ISA World Junior Surfing Championship not just for its beautiful coast and consistent waves but also the country’s commitment to promoting surfing and its dedication to the ISA’s goals for a better surfing future,” said Fernando Aguerre, ISA president. “We are excited to work with the Peruvian Surfing Federation (Federacion Deportiva Nacional de Tabla (FENTA), and look forward to bringing our young surfers to such a breathtaking, culture-rich country for the competition,” added Aguerre.
The 2011 Quiksilver ISA World Junior Surfing Championship will gather the finest surfers from over 60 nations to compete in the Boys Under 18, Boys Under 16 and Girls Under 18 divisions. As members of their respective National Surf Teams, surfers will compete for the glory of winning Team and Individual Gold, Silver, Bronze and Copper medals.
“We are ecstatic about hosting this event. The 2011 Quiksilver ISA World Junior Surfing Championship will be making history for us, as Peru will be the first surfing nation to host three major ISA events,” said Karin Sierralta, FENTA General Manager. “The Juniors event is particularly important to us because Peru is home to a growing pool of extremely talented young surfers.”
“Peru has much to offer and I’m thrilled that young surfers from all around the world will be introduced to a country that embraces and supports surfing with such enthusiasm and heritage,” said Bob McKnight, Quiksilver CEO. Quiksilver has been the title sponsor of this event for the past seven years.
