The National Scholastic Championships are the pinnacle of junior surfing in New Zealand.  The annual event is held at a different location each year.  Twelve regional teams from around the country compete at the five day event.  The National Scholastic Championships comprise 8 divisisions:

Under 18 Boys
Under 18 Girls
Under 16 Boys
Under 16 Girls
Under 14 Boys
Under 14 Girls
Under 18 Bodyboard
Under 18 Longboard

Each regional team can comprise up to 12 team members ).  The team must comprise a surfer in each division with the remaining places in the team determined by each region (generally filled by surfers in divisions that have the most depth).  If a region does not have entrants in a specific division at a regional level or entrants in that division do not wish to compete at the National Scholastics then the region can further fill otehr divisions to make a full team of 12 surfers.

Regional Scholastic events take place in the lead up to the national event.

Dates for these events vary from region to region.  The only way to contest the national finals is to qualify through your regional event so don't miss out.
