| Billy Stairmand launching on day one |
Billy Stairmand has finished 25thas the highest placed Kiwi at the Nike Lowers Pro at Trestles. Billy was dumped out of the event this morning courtesy of Fred Patacchia (HAW) and Thomas Hermes (BRA).
Billy was in the hunt for the whole heat only requiring a 5.45 to progress but
the last ten minutes weren’t favourable to the natural footer who fell on
possibly his best ride scoring a 4.03 then only being able to catch the dregs
as the ocean went flat.
Billy was the last Kiwi surfer left in the event after Richard Christie was
eliminated in his first heat early this morning and Jay Quinn also bowing out
in the first round early yesterday by 0.1 points.
It will be three weeks before the guys are in action again, this time at a
prime event in Brazil
before a break in June and then the South African events.
Billy is currently the highest ranked Kiwi surfer at 52nd with Jay
at 64th and Ricardo at 111th.
Paige Hareb and Sarah Mason head to Brazil
for the Billabong Pro which starts on the 9th of May before they too
have a break during June and then compete in the final two events of the year
in France and USA.
There is one WQS event slotted in during late May in France which the girls may attend.
Paige leads the way for the Kiwi girls in ninth place with Sarah in 13th.
