Coaching Level 2

The ISA Level 2 Surf Coaching Course has been designed to help interested coaches learn theory and training activities to train surfers of novice to intermediate surfing level (club level surfer). That is, coaches who want to help developing surfers improve their basic ocean awareness and teach or improve the foundation surfing manoeuvres of surfing.

Course information includes:

Course duration: 2 days
Start and Finish: 8.30 – 5.00 daily

Development. & Maturation
Surfing Injuries
Lifestyle and Nutrition

Day 2
Balance & Force
Fundamental Movements in Surfing
Movement Patterns of Core Moves
Common Errors
Novice Surfing Skills
Analytic Skills for Surf Coaches
Simulation Training
Video Coaching
The Accreditation Process

Equipment Required:
Surfing gear for short surf during the course
Exercise gear for practical fitness component
Pen

Surfing Test:
Participants will be required to surf for 30 minutes to ascertain their surfing level. All participants must be able to perform basic surfing manoeuvres. That is catch waves, stand and ride their waves with turns. You do not need to have advanced surfing skills to be eligible to become a level 2 coach. But you do need to be a surfer to understand the process that your future students are going through to be able to advise them accordingly.

To become accredited you will need to:
1. Do the 2 day course
2. Plan and implement 40 hours of coaching for a group of surfers and document this training in an assignment booklet (post course)
3. Undertake an online coaching competencies exam. (post course)

4. Hold community bronze or equivalent (in particular for those who receive RPL entrance into the course).
