Surfing New Zealand is an Incorporated Society and is governed by a Constitution. The Constitution was established in 1986 and has been amended several times, the most recent being in 2009. The latest amendedments were made to align the Constitution with the way the sport is now administered.

Surfing New Zealand held a Special General Meeting (SGM) on the 29th August, 2009 at Raglan. The purpose of the SGM was to table the proposed new Constitution and get approval from affiliated boardrider clubs. The minutes from the meeting have been completed with recommendations made to SNZ by the clubs present.
