Twelve surfers from
Gisborne Boardriders Club attended the International Surfing Association (ISA)
Judging Course held at Wainui School Hall at the weekend including 2012
National Junior Team representative Jasmine Smith.
Also attending was Liz Alder from Walking on Water Surf School who hopes to
pass on the knowledge she has gained by running mini –competitions for the
“groms” that come through the surf school.
Former SNZ/ASP judge and local resident Wayne Spence opened the course with
some encouraging words on the pathway to an international judging career. The
one day course covers all aspects of the judging criteria and includes using
the judging scale, interference calls and video heat judging scenarios to test
the participant’s skills. “It was great to bring this judging course to
Gisborne and up skill the boardriders club.
We have a number of important events on the contest calendar held in
Gisborne and we now have a great depth of qualified officials in which to
engage for future events” commented SNZ Judging Co-ordinator Lee Ryan.
Thanks to Andrew McCulloch of Gisborne Boardriders Club for organising the
course and putting on a great hot lunch for all attendees
