The GromLab is a 4-day surfing development camp held in the wave rich Gisborne region for the last three years. This year’s GromLab runs on the first week of the October school holidays from Monday 2nd until Thursday 5th October. THE GROMLAB IS OPEN TO 30 SURFERS (First in first served basis)
Best suited to Grom’s surfing at an intermediate to advanced surfing level, GromLab caters for frothing young male and female surfers between the ages of ten and fourteen. Surfers are ability grouped and tagged with their very own professional surfing coach who will travel with the group for the duration of the camp.
Surfers meet at 9am each morning at Wainui Beach School hall, which is also the venue for all video reflection and theory based coaching sessions. From there, the GromLab launch multiple surfing related adventures around the Gisborne area including many practical/filmed surfing sessions, visits to The Boardroom factory, New Wave Surfboards, MindLab video editing training, Morere Hot Pools, the skate park, a pilates session and the famous GromLab Road Trip!
Every event is thoroughly documented by Damon Meade (Professional Cinematographer) who provides a super high quality video edit at the completion of the Lab.
All surfing sessions are conducted under the watchful eye of The Art of Surfing’s Matt Scorringe and Alex Dive (Both ex WQS level surfers) Matt and Alex bring a truly professional experience as The Art of Surfing is New Zealand’s only high performance coaching company. The team is rounded out with two of Gisborne’s most experienced and highly qualified coaches James Fowell and Kelly Ryan. These two coaches hold several national surfing titles between them and have coached New Zealand’s best surfers to the highest level. The GromLab team, although experienced in elite surfing, have no trouble adapting to the younger age group.
This is why GromLab has been a sell-out event since it’s induction in 2015.
The cost of the GromLab is $400.00 per surfer for the four day surfing adventure. There are thirty spaces available in the 2017 GromLab Surfing Development Camp.
