Matt-Lewis Hewitt (NZL) won the Chill Pro Junior presented by the City of Stirling at Trigg Point, Perth today. This is the New Zealander's 2nd win on the 2011 ASP Australasian Pro Junior Series.

An unexpected pulse saw the surf rise to a crisp, clean 3 foot (1.5 meter) for the final day of the 2011 Chill Pro Junior. The final was a clash of the titans with both Matt-Lewis Hewitt (NZL) and Garrett Parkes (AUS) dominating their Semifinal heats with big hacks and massive airs. The stage was set for an exciting Final and the boys didn't disappoint, but it was Hewitt who came bursting out of the gates taking an early lead that he never relinquished.

"The final was tricky, the waves pulsed in the Semis, but the wind came up and the waves stopped in the Final," Hewitt said. "You had to be smart, it's always tough against guys like Matt Banting and Garrett (Parkes). You've got to be on your game."

Hewitt has now leapt from 9th to 5th on at ASP Australasian Pro Junior Series ratings, and only one place away from a coveted spot in the ASP World Junior Championships later this year.

"My goal this year was to qualify for the ASP World Juniors so I knew I needed a big finish," Hewitt said. "It would be huge for New Zealand to have someone compete at that level and I'm doing all I can so it can be me."

Parkes, although disappointed to not take home the 2011 Chill Pro Junior title is elated to move to number one on the ASP Australasian Pro Junior Series ratings.

"I feel like the ocean just took a dump on my face, it didn't favour me at all," Parkes said. "It sucks when you're feeling confident and you're board feels great, to have conditions change and have nothing come your way. That said, it feels good to be on top of the ratings. Last year was a terrible year for me, so it's great to have turned it around this year."

Top seeds Ryan Callinan (AUS) and Dean Bowen were both eliminated in the Quarterfinals taking home equal 5th place finishes, while Matt Banting (AUS) and Ryan Callinan (AUS) both finished equal 3rd.
