Word has been filtering out that Matt Hewitt won an event over in California this weekend. We couldn't find out much about it on the net until we hit up the trusty pages of Facebook. Sure enough there is a string of comments under a wee post by Matt after taking out a VQS event. A quick stalk onto the 'who's online section' and we find Matt logged in chatting with his fan base. So we pestered him for five minutes to get some answers on what went down over the weekend. Here is what he had to say.

Who did you beat in the final then?
Um I’m not to sure of their names.

OK....just colours aye - man they must be teaching you some new tricks over there with all that training you have been doing!...block out the competitors, just colours!
Haha yea but had some pretty stacked heats leading up to the finals!

Yea I have been training with DSC which is Deans Sports Consultants and that’s been a big eye opener with what sort of training they do! I also did some training with Ian Cairns which is so good!

This kid Bobby not sure of his last name but he was one of the favorites to win it! There were a couple of others but not sure of there names.

And what booty did you win - I heard a cool 2G?
Yea was about that including all the prizes!!

Did Kanga Cairns coach you through the event or just in the lead up?
Nah I did three days coaching with him the week before!

And how did the locals handle a Kiwi winning one of their events?
Haha well when they called me up in first they called me a Aussie but I corrected them. They were pretty cool about it though.

Nice work.....do you qualify for anything by winning the event?
I’m not to sure how their qualification works over here but they said they were just gunna keep in touch for the international final.

Home on Thursday by the sounds of it and straight to the BOP Sports Awards....what’s after that from now until Xmas?
Yea looking forward to getting home and then got the sports awards on Friday so that should be a good night! Not much else, just training and spending time with the family and friends before I head off again in January.
