HOW THE RATINGS WORK

RATING OF AN EVENT
In order for an event to recieve a rating event sponsors or organiser apply to SNZ to have their event sanctioned. A rating for an event is determined by the prize money, this type of rating process generally applies to the SNZ Pro Circuit events. The levels of rating are 4 star, 5 star and 6 star.
All sanctioned grommet events are 4 star, there is no prize-money for these events.
The Longboard Pro Series consist of 6 events of which the SNZ Nationals and the Kaikoura Longboard Classic are 5 Star. The remaining 4 events are 4 star.

COMPETITOR POINTS
Each competitor will receive points according to their final placing at an event. The amount of points that a competitor receieves is determined by the star rating that an event has been appointed.
At the end of a circuit or series the total points will determine a competitors overall placing for a circuit or series for that year.
Although a circuit or series may have a total of 6 or 7 events only the top 4 or 5 events for each competitor may count toward their overall points total for that year.

PREPARING THE DRAW
Surfing NZ has set guidelines and procedures when seeding competitors into the draw for rated or sanctioned events.
These procedures apply to all competitors who have participated in one or more SNZ rated or sanctioned events.
The 1st event of a circuit or series competitors are seeded into the draw according to their final placing from the previous year

However there are specific requirements that need to be adhered to if a competitor wants to receive their seeding for an event as listed below.

1. CMF
Competitors must pay their CMF (Competitive membership fee) prior to the begining of the SNZ competitive year.
Anyone who does not pay the CMF will lose their current seeding and will drop down the seeding order.

2. WHEN TO PAY CMF
The New Zealand National Championships is the 1st contest of the SNZ competitive season and payments should be made before this event.
The CMF is an annual payment and is seperate from an entry fee.
Payment ensures that a competitor is eligible to be seeded into the draw accordingly to their current rating.
Payment of the CMF also allows a competitor to receive prizemoney.
Payment of the CMF also entitles competitors to a complementry  membership into the SNZ membership club.

2. ENTRY FEES
The required entry fee must accompany an entry form and must be received by the person or organisation prior to the event close off date.
Any entires received after the close off date will be determined as being late.

3. LATE ENTRIES
Entries and payments received after the close off date will result in a loss of seeding. Late entrants also risk losing a spot in the draw and a competitor who is a late entry will only be entered if there are spaces available.
If an entry form was received prior to the close off date but payment was made after the close off date a competitor will still lose seeding priority.

4. NO SHOWS
There will be no refunds for no show competitors. Only in the event of an emergency will a refund be taken into consideration. This will be at the discretion of SNZ and or the organising committee.
Any competitor that registers for an event and who hasn't paid and does not show for that event  will be charge the entry fee owing and will not be accepted for any future events until that fee is paid.
Competitors should notify the organisers prior to the start of an event if they are unable to attend. This will allow time to reassess the draw.

SEEDING FORMAT OPEN MEN
Entry fees must be paid to allow surfers to be seeded accordingly. Open Men’s seeds will be determined by the previous year’s ratings and the top 16 from the previous year will receive seeding priority. The seeds will then be seeded in accordance with the current year’s ratings.  Surfers in the first round will be seeded according to the current year’s ratings.
Seeding for the first event of the competitive year will be determined by the final ranking of each surfer from the previous year. Seeding for the Open Women and Junior Men will be based on the current year’s ratings.
Late entries (after cut off date) may be collected but a competitor will lose seeding priority and will only be entered in the draw if spaces are available
