Information:  The opening event of the tour brings all the surfers out of the woodwork.  Held during the peak summer season the surfers have plenty of beach goers to surf in front of.  Mount Maunganui is often regarded as the home of surfing and plays host to the biggest surf museum in New Zealand.  Nice summer swells can frequent the East Coast of the North Island at this time of the year and it is important that all surfers get their campaign off to the best possible start with a good result at the event.

Information:  The Sandy Bay event is a must on the longboard calendar.  Held over Waitangi Weekend, this event is like an annual pilgrimage where everyone gets together.  Out of cell phone coverage, the place is tranquil and relaxing and the event has one of the best atmospheres there is.  The event has recently held the tag of the most festive event of the tour with IC Motors stepping up the corporate hospitality with bands at the beach and big marquees.

Information:  Dunedin is the southern most stop on the Hyundai Pro Longboard Tour.  It is the perfect excuse for the ultimate surf trip/getaway.  Make sure you take the chance to head to the event and catch some some of the best surf that NZ has to offer.  For the local Dunedin surfers, the event will give the South Island guys a welcome reprise from the continual travel north.

hplt2010-event-number4What: Hyundai Pro Longboard Tour Event 4 (Longboard National Champs)
Where: Whangamata
When: 6 - 7 March
Rating: SNZ Longboard 5 Star
Prize Money: $3,050
Divisions: Open Men, Women, Under 18 Men, Over 40, Over 50 and SUP
Information:  The penultimate Whangamata event is doubling up as the national champs in 2010.  The event retains the big points from 2009 but the prize money is only to the value of a 3 star event ($3,050).  From here the the tour marches on to Port Wiakato so form is everything at this point of the tour.  Watch for surfers starting to charge up and down the ratings after a two week break from the Dunnos event.  Surfers can’t leave their run until the last event so a good result here is required by anyone seriously considering a charge for the ratings title.
Additional activities: Hyundai will lay on their usual hospitality in association with the local Jacobson Hyundai Dealer.  Check out all the latest Hyundai vehicles or take on the Hyundai volley ball arena on the beach.
Promotion activity: There will be a gold coin donation BBQ and refreshments.  The Hyundai girls will be out selling raffle tickets for the Hyundai longboard.  All proceeds from the longboard raffle go to the local Boardriders club.
Defending champions: Open Men - Michael Burling (H Bay), Women - Monique Waltzer (Aus), Junior Men - Sam Guthrie (Mnt), Over 40 - Lynden Kennings (WGM), Over 50 - Paul Browne (Auckland)

hplt2010-event-number5What: Hyundai Pro Longboard Tour Event 5
Where: Sunset Beach, Port Waikato
When: 26 - 27 March (Friday – Saturday)
Rating: SNZ Longboard 5 Star
Prize Money: $4,575
Divisions: Open Men, Women, Under 18 Men, Over 40, Over 50 and SUP
Information:  The finale at Port Waikato will determine the Hyundai pro Longboard Tour Champions for 2010.  The event is another big points and prize money 5 star event.  In recent years this event has been graced with some all time waves.  Will 2010 produce the same?  You will have to be there to find out.  Major bragging rights go on the line and hopes can often be dashed with just one bad heat.  The event will be held on a Friday and Saturday with the usual Saturday night festivities now coinciding with the end of the tour instead of prior to the most important competition day of the year.
Additional activities: Hyundai will lay on their usual hospitality in association with the local Waikato Motor Group Hyundai Dealer.
