A large field of 27 paddlers gathered on the start line of the SUP Paddle Race at the Sandy Bay leg of the Hyundai Pro Longboard Tour. It was the biggest field of the year for the newly created division. Jeremy Stephenson (Auck) took out the race for the second straight event to extend his lead on the ratings with Troy Huston placing second and Daniel Kereopa in third.
The King of the Waves race comprises three laps of a V shaped course that has the inner most boy located amongst the waves. This creates a new dimension to the paddling with the entrants having to navigate their craft through the waves while turning.
The next race takes place at Mount Maunganui this weekend at the fourth event of the Hyundai Pro Longboard Tour.
