Surfing New Zealand are holding a Level 1 Surf Instructors Course in Mount Maunganui on the 1-2nd May 2010. The course is accredited by the International Surfing Association (ISA) and is the minimum requirement needed to teach surfing on NZ beaches. The cost for the course is $550.
You will need a basic level of surfing ability and an enthusiastic approach but most of all a passion for surfing. Places are limited and are on a first come first serve basis. If you are looking at escaping the winter and heading overseas to work as a surf instructor then this is the course for you!
There will also be a First Aid/CPR course the day before – Friday 30th April. This course is specifically tailored for surfers and professional surf coaches and will cover all emergency first aid scenarios at the beach. The cost for the First Aid course is $95. Current surf coaches can also use this course to refresh there 1st Aid qualification.
