The Kiwi team hit the water overnight with the bodyboarders and longboarder in action. It was the first day of the 2006 Lost Energy Drink ISA World Surfign Games scheduled for the 14-22 October.
Thomas Kibblewhite (Auck) made it through the first round of the longboard but finished fourth in his second heat which included Longboarding legend Bonga Perkins of Hawaii. Kibblewhite will now contest the repercharge rounds.
Hayden Parsons (Dun) placed second in his first heat to progress through to the second round alongside Nai Oliver of Tahiti. Andrew Low (Dun) also progressed in second place behind Nicolas Richard of Tahiti. Mihi Wells (Auck) has not surfed her first heat yet.
The open men will enter the water overnight (Monday) with the women entering the water overnight Tuesday.
While training prior to the event, Lisa Hurunui (Gis) was hit by her board splitting her lip all the way to her nose. Lisa was urgently rushed to hospital where she received plasitc surgery. It will be touch and go if she will compete in the event.
