Laura Rishworth was another Quiksilver New Zealand Surfing Team member that we caught up with post 2010 BIllabong ISA World Surfing Games where she placed ninth in the Women's Division. Here is what she had to say.
SNZ: What does surfing mean to you?
Laura: I can't remember a time when I wasn't spending most of it in the water
SNZ: What do you love most about surfing?
Laura: Its a new experience every time, and the experiences you have travelling, to new waves, as well as the waves, makes it that much better
SNZ: What inspires you?
Laura: People you connect with and get you
SNZ: Favourite surfer when you were growing up? Why?
Laura: Kelly Slater
SNZ: Who is your favourite surfer now? Why?
Laura: Still Kelly, the guys 38 and is on his way to his 10th world title, there's just no other competitor out there like him
SNZ: Most famous person you have met outside of surfing?
Laura: Stevo
SNZ: Facebook or recluse?
Laura: Ahh I guess normally recluse, I'm definitely not on there every day maybe every 3rd or 4th day if your lucky, when I'm away from home doesn't count..
SNZ: Quote/Saying you live by?
Laura: A journey of a thousand miles starts with the first step
SNZ: Can you suggest a miracle one stop health remedy?
Laura: Hydrogen Peroxide, 3 drops in each ear if you ever feel a cold coming on do that and 9/10 you are sweet the next morning. Works great on killing bacteria in cuts too.
SNZ: Are you superstitious…if so give us an example?
Laura: Nope
SNZ: Tell us something you are surprisingly good and bad at?
Laura: Good - Juggling a soccer ball. Bad – Nothing
SNZ: If you weren’t a surfer what would you be?
Laura: Professional soccer player
SNZ: What music have you been listening to recently?
Laura: Bit of everything always love a bit of Shapeshifter
SNZ: Ever sung Karaoke? What and Where?
Laura: Ahh no
SNZ: Most memorable competitive result?
Laura: So far winning the Nationals Open Women’s Title
SNZ: Would you like to see any changes in surfing competitions?
Laura: On the NZ tour ideally I'd like to have a more locations in the tour and at better surfing spots and to have more professional contests: WQS and Pro Junior contests.
SNZ: How do you deal with crowds?

Laura: A
SNZ: Surf break you enjoy surfing the most apart from your local? Why?
Laura: Stent Rd, there are very few right hand points in NZ and very few of the quality Stent can produce
SNZ: Last trip overseas?
Laura: Hawaii in Dec 09
SNZ: What was your best session on that trip and who was it with?
Laura: Makaha with a whole bunch of locals
SNZ: What do you do to show your appreciation toward surfing and the environment?
Laura: Put my rubbish in the rubbish bin in
SNZ: Is being sponsored a right or a privilege?
Laura: A privilege

SNZ: What is life after surfing?
Laura: Surfing this is what I plan on doing till I can't walk, sounds cheesy but I love the water far too much
