Check out all the action from the Auahi Kore Maori Surfing Titles held at Manu Bay, Raglan last weekend.  The comp was another great success with a huge field of surfers enjoying the waves and good times to be had.  The local Iwi were great hosts with beautiful feeds at the Powhiri and the Poroporoaki held at Poihakena Marae.

It was fitting that DK managed to take the title at his home break along with other local surfers Jessica Santorik and Phil Willoughby who picked up two titles.  No doubt next year will be just as good when everyone is hosted by the local Iwi in Ahipara with the comp reverting back to the traditional dates of Labour Weekend in October.

group-photo

It is pretty hard to get everyone together for a photo when they know there is a feed waiting in the Wharekai but we managed.

bodhi  buck-woods2

Bodhi Whitaker held the fort for the Gissy crew surfing his way through to the final of the Rip Curl Under 18 boys.

Buck woods was in the same boat making the finals of the Rip Curl Under 18s and Volcom Under 16s.

clint-daly  james-fowell2

Clint Daly dipped earlier than expected but got on the end of the microphone with JF to keep the crowd up to date.

James Fowell multi tasked surifng the Billabong Open Men's and Bodyline Seniors all whilst commentating eight hours a day.

james-gray  jamie-andrews1

James Gray was his usual smooth self just like this cutty in the early rounds.

Jamie Andrews came up from Taras surfing both the Open and the Longboard the latter of which he won.

jason-matthews2  leon-santorik

Jason Matthews surfed eight times on the last day and rode to victory in one of the four divisions he contested - the Auahi Kore Over 40s.

Leon Santorik held the lead in the Open Men with 30 seconds to go but got pipped at that post by DK.

mike-banks1  mischa-davis

Mike Banks showed the crowd his fins on a regular basis in each heat he surfed.

Mischa Davis enjoyed the freedom of a spring suit and her surfing looked to benefit from it.

motu-mataa  peri-matenga

Motu Mataa thrived on being back in the comp scene and his presence was welcomed by everyone.

11 year old Peri Matenga got everyone talking with his go get it attitude in decent size waves.

richard-christie2  sophie-moore

The competition was so strong that fin wafts like this from Ricardo were not enough to advance him further than the semifinals.

Sophie Moore puts it up over the oncoming section in the Roxy Women's finals.

thomas-hardwick   tim-oconnor1

Thomas Hardwick impressed many progressing to the final of the Under 16s.

Tim O'Connor got knocked in the Under 18s but made it all the way to the final of the Open Men's and challenged for the lead on several occasions.

wayne-cooper  jess-santorik2

Wayne Cooper showed many of the out of towners how to surf Manu Bay.

Jess Santorik used her local knowledge to make sure she finished ahead of the field.

joseph-kelly1  phil-willoughby

Joe Kelly adavnced to the semi finals of the Open Men's.

Phil Willoughby's speech was one to remember after he won two divisions and was also one that the groms should have taken note of.

sean-coffey

Coff Dog made his standard appearance at the Maori Nats.
