New Hyundai i35
Written by Hyundai
Friday, 27 August 2010
Here’s the all-new compact car from Hyundai, the i35.  The latest edition of Hyundai’s most popular model worldwide, it reflects the powerful brand’s latest Fluidic Sculpture philosophy and the newly evolved Wind Craft design.

Featuring the Gamma 1.6-litre GDI engine and 6-speed automatic transmission developed entirely in-house, it goes on sale in Korea this month (August) and is due in New Zealand early next year.

“This new replacement for the Elantra will most likely provide the best styling and performance in its class,” explained the Chief Operating Officer of Hyundai New Zealand, Tom Ruddenklau.

“It has a sportier and even more progressive image than its predecessor, and it will continue the successful Hyundai formula of optimum technology and powertrain to deliver class-leading performance and fuel efficiency.” The i35 will sip just 6.0l/100km*.

Although the i35 is a completely new vehicle, it’s the fifth generation of the model’s lineage which has racked up cumulative sales of 6 million units worldwide and high recognition from a number of world renowned car-rating agencies.

“We are confident this model will once again make a great impact worldwide in addition to the domestic market,” said the President and CEO of Hyundai Motor, Steve S. Yang.
The all-new, powerful and fuel efficient 4-cylinder Gamma 1.6 Gasoline Direct Injection (GDI) engine delivers a peak output of 140ps at 6,300 RPM and maximum torque of 17.0kg•m.  GDI technology doesn’t only boost power output: it also improves fuel economy.

The i35’s commitment to extreme fuel efficiency continues with a six-speed automatic transmission.

Hyundai’s Fluidic Sculpture design philosophy reflects sophistication and dynamic lines into the shape of vehicles, while Wind Craft has its design motives in the flowing movement of air and the i35’s artistic sculpture.

Like Hyundai’s latest models ix35 the compact SUV and i45 sedan, the i35’s outer design is highlighted by bold, dynamic graphic elements such as hexagonal front grille and dramatically swept back headlamps. Alloy wheels (15-, 16- or 17-inch) complete its assertive stance.

The new i35 will delight and surprise with a raft of other advanced features not found on other compacts, including Smart Parking Assist System (SPAS) that assist the driver when slipping between two cars parked in single file by automatically controlling only the steering wheel using ultrasonic sensors, HID (High Intensity Discharge) headlamps, LED combination lamps in the rear, heated rear seats, puddle lamps and a color TFT LCD information display nestled in the gauge cluster.

Typically Hyundai, the i35 is strong on safety features. VSM (Vehicle Stability Management), which helps vehicles stay in a stable position, is applied for the first time in its class. Side & curtain airbags as well as active headrest are provided as basic features. High-tech safety features such as TPMS (Tire Pressure Monitoring System), ESS (Emergency Stop Signal) are also available.
