Matt Hewitt has climbed the ASP World Rankings by 20 places to sit at 157th after the latest event in Japan. Matt was the lone Kiwi surfing in the event and finished ninth at the Billabong Tahara Pro which was won by Hawaiian Ezekiel Lau.
He now returns to New Zealand for a
brief visit before heading to Europe for several events over the two months
where he will be joined by Jay Quinn and Billy Stairmand. Before Jay and Billy head to Europe they will
contest the Nike US Open of Surfing at Huntington Beach this week along with
Richard Christie and Paige Hareb.
Quinn has drawn Kelly Slater for the second year running at the event which
includes the top surfers in the world.
For Hareb, the event is the final chance to hold on to her top ten placing on
the Women’s World Tour and guarantee qualification for 2013. She currently sits in tenth equal with
travelling companion Rebecca Woods (Aus).
Hareb will be in action on Wednesday in the first rounds of the women’s
event.
Sarah Mason is also at the event and would needs an outstanding result to have
any chance of requalifying for the 2013 World Tour.
You can check all the action live iva Nike US Open of Surfing.
