It is with regret and frustration that organisers have decided to postpone the 2010 NILC contest due to a poor swell forecast for the east coast this coming weekend, and a wild one out west.
The team have been perusing the weather maps and swell charts - and it looks like Huey has gone AWOL on us this week. A Deep Low Pressure out to the Far East of NZ looks to generate a pulse of SE swell but it doesn't look promising to linger through to Saturday. On the West Coast there is a 4-5m SW swell forecast so pretty unfavourable conditions to run the event this coming weekend.
Organisers have been exploring options for the back-up date of Saturday 11th September 2010. The intention is to run the event at the primary location of the NE Coast of Auckland but Spring can be a fickle time for swell, so organisers have liaised with Muriwai and Piha contacts as a back up. Ultimately orgnaisers have full intention of running the event, due to the high calibre entrants, distance some of the competitors are travelling for the event and of course the heavy investment from key sponsors making this an event of prestige.
Organisers look forward to seeing you next weekend whether it be on the white sand of the Mangawhai Coast or the wild west side of Piha / Muriwai.
