The third
and final event of the 2011 Northland
Scholastics Surfing Series will be held this Friday 15th July at Shipwreck
Bay, Ahipara. Registration will be at Shipwreck Bay
at 7.30am for all competitors.
Due to a non-existent swell forecast for the east coast venue of Mangawhai
Heads, organisers have been liaising with the Far North crew and a decision has
been made to shift to Ahipara to capitalise on the promising swell conditions
lining up for Friday.
High Tide is as 9.15am with an
easing swell, which should make for some pretty fun contest conditions:
Friday Morning
Breezy whitecapping conditions with moderate choppy seas. Very large long
period swell.
Seas: WSW 5.1 meters at 14 sec.
Winds: WSW 12 to 16 knots
Friday Afternoon
Breezy whitecapping conditions with moderate choppy seas. Very large long
period swell.
Seas: WSW 4.8 meters at 13 seconds
Winds: WSW 15 to 20 knots
The plan is to start with the Under
14 Boys Division at 8am. If there is a change in location from Ahipara
(further around the reef) this will be communicated to all contestants on the morning
(at briefing).
Please confirm your entries to me no later than 5pm on Wednesday so I can adjust the draw.
A reminder that the entry fee for the contest is $10 and the NSSS will be
paying a koha to the local kaitiaki at Shipwreck Bay
as the plan is to set up base here for the day.
Thanks for your continued patience and support, and we look forward to seeing
you in Ahipara this Friday. Any questions please don't hesitate to get in
contact.
