From the same spring that brought you new born lambs, ducklings, more wind than you could poke a stick at and some warmer water to revel in, also came the latest NZ Surfing Mag issue 148.
A mixed bag of an issue, we feature everything from kiwis travelling offshore to big and small waves back home, and everything in between.
Gisborne grom, almost man Johnny Hicks, took this issues cover in the process of also taking the MVP during NZ Surf Mags virgin trip to Tavarua Island.

| Papatowai Roars into life: At the turn of the century Papatowai thrust the NZ big wave movement into the limelight, until a few years of hibernation set in. A deep Antarctic low reading 936 millibars in mid October changed all that in one foul swoop, gifting a few dedicated watermen a shot at the biggest and cleanest Papas in a long time. |
Dane Reynolds journeys to New Zealand: The supposed heir of the World Surfing throne Dane Reynolds expresses himself at the bottom of the world in the Catlins, as our own Prince of surfing and guide Richard Christie, goes toe to toe with his idol. |
