Paige Hareb has finished her rookie year on the World Tour in eighth place qualifying for the Tour in 2010 directly through her World Tour ranking as well as qualifying through the World Qualifying Series that finished a couple fo months ago where she placed fourth. Paige finished ninth in the Billabong Pro held at Honolua Bay, Maui, Hawaii - the last event of the year. We caught up with Paige and asked her a few breif questions after the last event wrapped up.
Hey Paige, you have just finished your first year on the World Tour, are you stoked to get your rookie year out of the way successfully?
I wouldn't put it like that 'getting it out of the way' I'm happy I have re-qualified for the tour next year through the wqs and through the wct, that's always a confidence booster.
The year had alot of ups and downs, ofcourse I wanted to finish up better that what I did but I'm still not complaining. It's been a pretty good year overall.
Did you achieve your pre season goal with a final placing of eighth?
No after the first event I had higher expectations of top 3 or atleast top5.
There's always next year I guess!
Run us through that final event – the waves looked rather large?
Yeah they were pretty amazing waves, the best we have had all year. I was a little un-prepared and didn't have the exact board I wanted there for that size surf
but I still got some good ones and had a lot of fun but it's always on my mind that I coulda shoulda woulda done better!
What was the highlight of the year in the water?
I guess I would have to say right at the start of the year when I got 3rd at Snapper, I wasn't expecting anything so to get that result straight off the bat felt pretty amazing.
What was the highlight of the year out of the water?
Too many! But I guess overall just the travelling, meeting new people, seeing new things, learning all the time!
What was one of the most valuable lessons you learnt about competing at the highest possible level?
Never give up, don't be too hard on yourself and be confident.
Are you looking forward to some time at home over the festive season?
Yeah for sure, I can't wait to get home. I miss my friends and family and just my home town in general. It's going to be epic!
Give us a brief of your preparation leading into the 2010 season?
I'm going to go harder than my lead up for this year and I want to stay on top of my fitness and focus for the whole year
What are your goals for next year?
At least top 5, anything better is a bonus!
