Paige Hareb has finished her 2011 ASP World Tour campaign after bowing out in the second round of the Nike US Open held at Huntington Beach Californiatoday placing thirteenth.
The event is the last of seven on the Women’s World Tour and Hareb is set to
finish outside the top ten surfers on tour who gain automatic qualification for
the 2012 Tour. Hareb sat in twelfth
place prior to the event.
Hareb will now shift her focus to the ASP Qualifying
Series where three events remain for her to requalify for the 2012 Tour. Hareb is in a good position for qualification
currently placed fifth. The top six
qualify for the 2012 Tour.
Today Hareb faced off against 2010 and defending three-time world champion Stephanie
Gilmore (AUS) and Claire Bevilacqua (AUS).
In her first round match up she narrowly placed second to Gilmore
scoring 11.50 to Gilmore’s 12.00 points with Bevilacqua in third.
Hareb then had to turn around and contest a head-to-head match up with another
Australian in Laura Enever. It was yet another
tight battle in the tricky beach break conditions.
Hareb lead the heat after her first wave – a 6.83 point ride. She then backed it up with a 5.90 point ride to
lead at the half way mark of the heat.
However Enever came back with consecutive rides of 6.77 and 7.27 points
to take a lead that she never relinquished.
Hareb required a 7.22 point ride to surpass Enever but it was not to be
with Hareb being eliminated from the event.
Hareb will next compete in Sri Lanka
on the 30th of August before heading to Spain
and Portugal
for the final two events.
