Paige Hareb could be in action today competing at the Telstra Drug Aware Pro at Margaret River, Western Australia. The surf has been big over the last two days and is expected to get bigger again as the event progresses.

Paige has yet to surf a heat at the event having been seeded through to the Round of 48 Surfers.  When she does enter the water at what she calls her favourite event of the year, she will take on Alana Blanchard (HAW), Naomi Stevic (AUS) and Roasanne Hodge (ZAF).

Paige won the event in 2008 catapulting her onto the ASP World Tour where she has remained for the past three years.  Paige is currently ranked 13th
on the Women’s WQS after the first two events.

Yesterday saw the demise of the Kiwi guys at the event with Jay Quinn getting ousted in a high scoring heat losing to Owen Wright (AUS), 16.77 and Gabe Kling (USA), 15.46.  Quinn himself posted a hefty 14.83 point heat total placing third in the heat.

Billy Stairmand also placed third in his heat losing to Josh Kerr (AUS) and Dion Atkinson (AUS).  Both Kiwi surfers finished the event in 25th
overall.

Jay was the highest ranked Kiwi at the most recent Newcastle six star event placing 17th while Ricardo placed 25th and Billy 73rd.
Paige placed fifth in the Women’s Division losing to Sage Erickson (USA) in the Quarterfinals.

Billy is currently the highest ranked surfer on the tour in 41st while Jay sits in 58th and Richard Christie in 79th
.

Johnny Hicks also competed at the Chiko Pro Junior at Newcastle locking down an excellent fifth placing.  The result has pushed Johnny up to 15th on the Australasian Pro Junior Rankings as the highest Kiwi.  Travelling companion Alex Dive sits in 23rd position while Ben Poulter is back in 45th after the first five events of the year.  All three surfers will head to Tahiti
next week for a two event leg taking in the Rangiroa Pro and the Tahiti Nui Pro Junior.

The next event for the ASP WQS guys is likely to be the six star prime Nike Lowers Pro at the start of May.  Meanwhile Paige and Sarah Mason will be eyeing up the World Tour Rip Curl Pro event at Bell Beach which starts on the 3rd of April.
