When Rip Curl came out and threw down a trip to Bali and entry into the Padang Padang Cup, everyone started talking about who would best represent New Zealand at such a prestigious event. Of course the likes of Maz, Jay Ricardo and the injured Bobby Hansen popped up off the tip of everyone's tongue.
Then there were the likes of the goofies Luke Cederman and Chris Malone that dominate barrels like the ledge at Manu Bay. Leon Santorik was another that was on everyone's mind. All of these surfers are recognised as highly talented and guys that can hold their own in size and barrels.
Morehu went under the radar of everyone. I am not sure why. Perhaps he wasn't given a chance of winning the Rip Curl Pro. But I, along with a number of surfers, have seen Morehu surf the ledge as good as anyone. His timing is impeccable and his tube sense is bloody good too.
We thought we would put it to his peers to see how they think he will go at Padang later this year.
Leon Santorik - He is going to blaze, I can see him winning for sure. Yep he is mad, I am stoked for him.
Luke Cederman - He will rpobably do real well cos he is a real good tube rider, he charges.
Luke Hughes - He is going to kill it, you watch. He grew up in Rags and Padang is a left!
Rangi Ormond - He is going to go good bro, he is mad
Johnny Hicks - He is going to win it, just cos he is
Ricardo Christie - He will get shacked!
Maz Quinn - Bad man Morehu. He will probably do alright if he gets on the plane. He does good at the Spit so he will do pretty well there if he gets his head around it and gets the waves.
Indian Nick - At Padang, to be honest, seriously, if he shows up he will do alright. But if he is still in the cage at the Bounty with Ricardo and Rangi he won't make his heat so I don't know. All the best to him though.
Felix Dickson - He will kill it mate. He is a mad dog, he has the madest style, he is going to get barrelled and spat out cuz.
So there you have it. Some animated Export Gold-fuelled answers from some of Morehu's peers just after the final at the Rip Curl Pro.
We will definately keep you up to date with how he gets on at the event.
