Postponement For Quiksilver King of the Groms |
|

Thursday, 22 March 2012 |
Maz Quinn’s Quiksilver King of the Groms presented by Don’t Let The Sun Get Under Your Skin scheduled for this weekend at Gisborne has been postponed due to lack of surf forecasted for the region.
The event will now run on the 28-29 April at Gisborne.
“I have looked at the reports all week and I cannot see the surf being big
enough to compete in, even for the grommets” the event namesakes Maz Quinn
said.
Quinn has spent his whole life surfing the very coastline where the event
is to be held and knows the conditions required for decent surf. “We also have a trip for two to France up for grabs in the Under 16 Boys
Division and we want to make sure that New Zealand’s best young surfers
have a shot at showing their talent in decent surf” added Quinn.
The postponement is the second for nationally rated events this year in what
has been a summer season of competition plagued by average surf.
When the event does get underway in late April, New Zealand’s top groms will battle
it out in the final event of the domestic season. Four New
Zealand representatives will be fresh back from the 2012
World Junior Surfing Championships in Panama with renewed confidence having
mixed with the best young surfers in the world.
Current ratings leader as Elliot Paerata – Reid (Piha) as well as Jordan
Griffin (BOP), Harrison Whiteside (Chch) and Jasmine Smith (Gis) are all set to
compete at the Championships which take place in four weeks time.
Maz Quinn’s Quiksilver King of the Groms presented by Don’t Let the Sun Get
Under Your Skin also includes several other divisions with the Under 14 and
Under 12 Boys Divisions as well as the Under 16 Girls.
The event also sees prizes being awarded for the highest heat score, highest
wave score and the best air.
