Most of the Kiwi surfers hitting international waters were in action over the past week. They were either at the Hurley US Open of Surfing or competing in Indonesia and even Europe. The fanfare around the US Open of Surfing was huge with the biggest winners purse ever in surfing history up for grabs. The $100,000 in prize money was eventually won by Huntington Beach local Brett Simpson who beat Mick Fanning in the final.
For the Kiwi's, the event did not eventuate to much, Paige Hareb being the most successful surfer placing 19th. Paige held her sixth placing on the Women's WQS ratings. It was a different story for Bobby Hansen. Despite placing 49th in the event which is an average result by Bobby's standards, he did manage to jump 12 places to 62nd on the Men's WQS ratings.
Both Paige and Bobby are well ahead of the Kiwi counterparts with all other surfers suffering early defeats in California. Check out the WQS rated Kiwi's below.
