Ricardo Christie has climbed to ninth on the WSL World Qualifying Series after an exceptional run through the Vans US Open that saw him finish fifth overall.
Ricardo jumped 17 places as a result of his US Open finish and now finds himself well in contention for qualification. He will head to Europe in two weeks for two important QS6000 events in Spain and the Azores and a crucial QS10,000 in Portugal, all taking place before the end of September.
At the US Open, Ricardo came up against eventual winner Kanoa Igarashi in the quarterfinals and the ocean went flat for much of the final 20 minutes of the heat leaving Ricardo stranded for opportunities to hunt down the 6.98 point ride required for the win. The heat ended with Kanoa’s 13.30 to Ricardo’s 11.83.
