Gisborne surfer Saffi Vette has had an exceptional time at the Skullcandy Oz Grom Open at Lennox Head finishing runner up in the Under 16 Girls Division.

Vette, a first time New Zealand junior representative this year will get a huge confidence boost from the result that she will carry through to the Vissla ISA World Junior Championship scheduled for September in Japan.

In the final of the event yesterday Vette found herself with a chance of topping the inform Zahli Kelly after surfing one good scoring ride.  However, with the small waves on offer, the conditions didn’t cooperate for the Kiwi surfer and she had to settle for second.

Vette was one of several Kiwi surfers competing at the event including her younger brother Finn, Josef Jungwirth (Rag), Caleb Cutmore (Ham), William Van Der Beek (Mnt) and Dylan Preston (Mnt).
