Event Two of the 2011 Northland Scholastics Surfing Series will take place this
Friday 6th May at the hub of Northland surfing Sandy Bay.
Surfers from schools across Northland will descend on the iconic Tutukaka beach
in the hope of gaining valuable series points in their respective age
divisions, with the ultimate goal of being selected to represent Northland at
the 2011 National Scholastics Surfing Competition later this year.
Sandy Bay brothers Manu and Paxti
Scott-Arrietta will no doubt be looking to dominate on home soil. Paxti
Scott-Arrietta (Kamo High School), who was runner up in the Under 18
Division in the first event of the NSSS at Ahipara, will be hoping to strike back
against Louie Smith (Rodney
College) who took out the
first event.
Little brother Manu Scott-Arrietta(Whangarei
Boys High
School) is the Current Surfing NZ Under 14
National Champion and dominated in Ahipara and will be looking to back it up
with another solid result at home.
The Under 16 division will be hotly contested with the 30 odd entries coming
from as far south as Rodney College to Kaitaia
College in the north.
Surfers to watch out for include Event One winner Joe Palmer (Kerikeri High School
) along with Fraser Seymour (Whangarei
Boys High
School). The Under 16 division has seen a
dramatic growth spurt from 2010 with numbers of entries doubling in 12 months,
and indication of the popularity of the 2011 Series.
Event organisers are looking forward to the
support from the North Coast Boardriders and Sport Northland, and the long
range swell forecast looks promising for another successful NSSS event at Sandy Bay.
Registration will be at 8am on Friday in
the central car park area at Sandy
Bay with the competition
proposed to kick off by 8.30am.
