2010 National Scholastic Surfing Championships - 5-9 October, Gisborne.
The National Scholastic Surfing Championships are the pinnacle of junior surfing in New Zealand. The annual event is held at a different location each year. Twelve regional teams from around the country compete at the five day event. The National Scholastic Championships comprise nine divisions:
Under 18 Boys
Under 18 Girls
Under 16 Boys
Under 16 Girls
Under 14 Boys
Under 14 Girls
Under 18 Bodyboard
Under 18 Longboard
Under 18 Kneeboard
Each regional team can comprise up to 12 team members (excluding kneeboarders). The team must comprise a surfer in each division with the remaining places in the team determined by each region (generally filled by surfers in divisions that have the most depth). If a region does not have entrants in a specific division at a regional level or entrants in that division do not wish to compete at the National Scholastics then the region can further fill other divisions to make a full team of 12 surfers.
Regional Scholastic events take place in the lead up to the national event. Dates for these events vary from region to region so keep your eyes on this website or check with your local boardriders club or PE Teacher. The only way to contest the national finals is to qualify through your regional event so don't miss out.
There are Scholastics coordinators in each of the twelve regions who help run the regional events and select the teams to travel to the finals. Contact details for these co-ordinators are set out below.
