Super City Scholastic Tri Series Event Two - Omaha Beach |

The second event of the Auckland Regional Scholastics Surfing Champs was completed at Omaha on Sunday the 22nd July.
Predictions of off shores on the west coast were tempting but it was a jump in
swell size that would make the ability to finish over seven hours of surfing
doubtful and a potential safety issue. Based on the forecast, organisers
decided on the East Coast option, where the groms braved contestable three foot
rolling surf.
Strong easterlies and rain tested all, however with access to the amazing Omaha
Surf club facilities, complete with hot showers, large kitchen and lounge and
the tower for the judges, the comp was nailed with precision.
The club rooms encouraged great social interaction and meant parents and
competitors got through a long wet day with enthusiasm and a reduced chance of hyperthermia!
A big draw of kids from schools all over the Auckland region enjoyed the “stormy”
putting on a great show of progressive surfing. The girls in particular stood
out in the early rounds, but it was the Boys U18 final, the last heat of the
day, where some really exciting action took place.
It was great to see all the surfers from all divisions revel in the inclement
conditions – well done to you all!
The comp finished just before 3.30pm allowing parents, kids and organisers to
scurry home for a well-earned rest!
