The countdown is on for the first event of the 2008 South Island Surfing Association (SISA) contest circuit “The Bayhouse Cape Classic” hosted by Buller Boardriders.
With $4000 in cash and product up for grabs, many of the South Islands top surfers will venture to Westport on Labour Weekend (Sat 20th & Sun 21st October 2007) to contest in the often challenging waves of Tauranga Bay. Most of last year’s finalists are expected to return to defend their titles.
Although Manu Schafer will be missing from the Open Division leaving current “Cape Classic Champ” Hayden Brain with one less surfer breathing down his neck, there will be plenty capable surfers ready to pounce.
With divisions catering from Under 16 Boys - Under 18 Women’s and up to the Grand Masters “The Bayhouse Cape Classic”, which is entering its seventeenth year, is one of the more scenic stops on the SISA circuit. Whilst sitting on the hill at “The Bayhouse” drinking a cold one or freshly brewed coffee, spectators can watch the event unfold around them.
Once again we are proud to have The Bayhouse as our major sponsor; after-all this is where Buller Boardriders Club began back in 1969 and the present Bayhouse was the Clubhouse. Emily and Tom have made a tremendous effort to celebrate this history and promote the future by putting up $2000 for the Open Division and by providing us with a great venue for the official after-party. With cool tunes by the Nomad & Friends and courtesy transport to and from Westport, the night will be a “Classic” as always!
Entry forms are available on the SISA & SNZ websites, at all good surf shops, and through your local clubs.
