Annabel Anderson's domination of the Stand Up World Series continued
this weekend on the North Shore of Oahu at Turtle Bay Resort.
Racking up wins in both the long distance downwind race and knockout
surf sprint races Anderson extended her lead in the overall standing of the
Stand Up World Series following wins at Namotu Island, Fiji; Oleron, France and
Chicago, USA including an outright win in France where she finished in front of
the men.
Saturday's 12 mile downwind race from Hukilau to Turtle Bay Resort
became a tactical race of reading ocean swell taking the risk of a line close
to the coast dodging swells hitting dry reefs along the coast. With a fast
start Anderson held contact with the front men and held on for 6th overall
duking it out amongst the boys all the way to the finish.
"That was a tough one. The ocean was like a washing machine for
2/3's of the race with the odd set wave coming through the reefs. I came here
to see how my form was after a month out of competition with a knee injury and
it was good to be back in action.
With all Stand Up World Series events taking place over two days and
combining a distance race and knockout sprint races to crown the winners of
each event. Sunday's knockout round robin took place in front of Oahu's North
Shore Turtle Bay Resort with the women lining up for the best of 3 races with
Anderson facing some of the best of Hawaii's water women.
Taking 3 guns from 3 races, gave her the overall title for the
weekend and extended her overall lad in the series.
17 year old wonder kid Connor Baxter again dominated the men's event
to re-take the lead in the overall standings as well.
Turtle Bay marked the start of Anderson's latest international
campaign which will see her compete week in, week out across the US over all
the Stand Up disciplines of surfing, downwind, long distance, sprint and
surfing racing between now and mid October.
From Hawaii, Anderson now heads to New York for the 26.5mile NYC
SEAside Paddle around Manhattan Island on Friday.
