NZ film maker Damon Meade is entering the final push to try to get a new NZ Surf film project funded over the next six days. The project is being funded through a new NZ crowdfunding site called Social Backing

To date the project has 137 backers and has raised over $8,600. The project needs to raise it's $14,000 target over the next six days to become a reality and receive funding. If it doesn’t reach that target, it raises $0 and the whole project won’t happen. This is the way that crowdfunding works – it’s an all or nothing funding initiative that ensures only worthy projects get the green light. All money will go into a 2 and a half month production stint that involves plenty of online video updates that can be found on the  Under The Weather website. The film will be given away online for free so everybody will be able to watch & download it.

"I think as a sport, surfing in this country doesn't get the recognition it deserves. We have an abundance of world class waves and world class surfers, and I think the sport needs more things like this to help raise the profiles of the surfers we have, to showcase our country and to lift the profile of the sport in general" - Meade said. "The film will be featuring our top riders and with a lot of work I hope to get the best material needed to make it a success".

There are still plenty of good bargains on the site which people can snap up in the next six days. There are lots of pairs of Oakley, Electric, and Arnette sunglasses, Hurley Boardshorts, a Quiksilver wetsuit, FCS Gift pack, a Canon camera, or the option to pre order of the DVD itself on the site. There's plenty there. Many of these products are packaged together with the DVD which will make a great combo. Look at it as early Christmas shopping perhaps? The main point of these rewards is that they were generously donated by surf companies and are designed to fund the film itself, which is the ultimate aim of the project.
