Surfing New Zealand is the non-profit
national sporting organisation for the sport of surfing in New Zealand.
The organisation is governed by a Board of five members. The organisation is managed by an Executive
Officer and two full time staff.
Through effective leadership the organisation promotes quality opportunities
for all surfers at all levels by inspiring excellence and success through
enjoyment.
The Annual General Meeting of Surfing New Zealand will be held at Sunset Motel,
Bankart Street,
Raglan on the 29th October 2011 at 9:30am.
As per the Surfing New Zealand Inc Constitution, every two years, positions on
the Board are up for election at the AGM. This year President (Steve Poulter), Vice
President (Simon Gerrie), South Island Rep (Dave O’Rourke), North Island Rep (Michael Fitzharris) and Other Member (Lewis Joyce)
are up for election. Dave O’Rourke and Michael Fitzharris will not be seeking re-election.
Nominations are currently open for candidates in all positions. Appointment to the board in the positions of
President, Vice President, North Island Rep and South Island Rep are for a period
of two years. The other member of the
Board will be elected for a period of one year.
Candidates should be strategic thinkers with excellent personal communication
skills, and the ability to listen to, understand and influence key
stakeholders. The Board, which is voluntary, currently meets bi-monthly via
video conferencing and twice a year face-to-face. The Board is supported by Advisory Committees
which meet and/or discuss matters with Surfing New Zealand Inc Management as
required from time to time.
Nominations will be distributed to all affiliated boardrider clubs prior to the
AGM at which voting will take place.
In applying for a position on the board the applicant should have:
- the ability to think strategically, i.e. able to see the ‘big picture’ and to
drive the organisation towards achieving the desired outcomes in the strategic
plan;
- prior experience as a board member, trustee or experience in any other
governance role;
- a combination of commercial expertise including marketing, business and/or
financial management.
- knowledge of, and experience in, the
sport of surfing at local, regional and/or international level;
- a passion of and commitment to the sport
of surfing;
- knowledge of, and experience in sport generally;
