The
second of three surfing competitions in the 'Autumn
Surf Series 2011' was held in 'The Corner'
at Lyall Bay on Saturday. It was a fun-filled day
with sun, surf and good times.
The Wellington Boardriders Club (Inc) committee definitely had solid autumn
groundswells on their mind while planning this series, so it was a great thing
to have it all come off for event two.
Around 40 competitors and loads more spectators took to the day's action with great energy. First up was the Open
Mens division. The waves were solid, a little lumpy first thing, but generally
very contestable. Having waves in town was a real bonus and meant we could all
avoid the petrol station for that little while longer.
Competitors made the most of the somewhat crowded conditions (understandable
given the lack of waves recently) to lock in their heat scores. Judges were
hooting throughout the day as a host of progressive surfing, especially in the
open division, took place. As the numerous divisions rolled through, the
weather improved, the swell cleaned up (although dropping in size) and everyone
enjoyed watching the finals unfold.
Results were as follows:
