Zennor Wernham (Rag) has continued his good run of form at the 2008 ISA World Surfing Games scoring an excellent 15.00 point total to win his heat in Repercharge Round 2. Wernham was one of three Quiksilver New Zealand Surfing Team members who competed on day five after competition was cut short due to small surf conditions.
The 2008 ISA World Surfing Games are currently being held at Costa Da Caparica, Portugal. The prestigious biennial event known as the Olympics of surfing takes place from the 11th – 19th of October.
Wernham got off to the best possible start scoring 7.00 points (out of a possible 10) on his first ride and then went better again on his second ride to score 8.0. The 15.0 point total put the pressure on the remaining three competitors who at one stage all needed a combination of scores to catch Wernham. Wernham did not better his first two waves and eventually progressed with ease alongside Shane Simmonds (Jam) into Repercharge Round 3.
Wernham contested the last heat of the day after officials decided that conditions were sub par for international competition. As a result the scheduled running of Open Men’s Repercharge Round 3 did not take place.

Bodyboarders Jarred Ferris (Gis) and Andrew Low (Blaketown) managed to fit in their heats before the conditions deteriorated. Ferris, contesting Qualifying Round 2, placed third in his heat after scoring a total of 7.30. Ferris was beaten by Pierre Costes (FRA) and Diego Cabrera (SPN) and as a result will now continue through the repercharge rounds.
Ferris now meets Andrew Low in the same heat of Repercharge Round 2 after Low placed second in his Repercharge Round 1 heat. Low scored 8.73 to place second in the heat behind Oliver Herrera (SPN). Conditions were far from optimal for the bodyboarders with many of them struggling to pull out the explosive turns that they are capable of. As a result of the conditions the women’s division was called off.
Maz Quinn, Luke Cederman, Jessica Santorik, Daisy Thomas, Mihi Wells and Daryn Mcbride did not compete on day four.
