It is now the start or the membership year for Whangamata Boardriders. The club is doing a membership drive and as you have been either a past member or shown interest in the Club, we would like to offer you the opportunity to join up. If you would like to do this, please fill out registration form and either post or email it or drop it off to Whangamata Surf with your fee.
CLUB WEBSITE The Boardrider Club website is now up and running, but still in the early stages. If you have anything of interest for the site please let us know. Especially old/new photos, upcoming events etc.
CLUB LOGO COMPETITION. We would like a logo to use on Tee shirts, letterhead and website. If you would like to enter the comp, please send entry to 24 December. The winner will receive a new club tee shirt.
COMMITTEE. At the AGM in August the following committee was elected.
President: Dean Williams
Secretary: Janine Spiers
Treasurer: Ritchie Myers
Committee members: Jan Shanks, Jan Sutherland, Drew Bowden, Wayne Chatham, Rae Thomas Foster, Greg Amos, Bruce Scott, Ralph & Joanne Timewell.
The national Scholastics were held at Makorori Beach Gisborne during the school holidays. The Coromandel team had a reasonably good result placing 4th.
Martin Dunn one of the best surf coaches in the world is spending 2 days in Whangamata coaching our elite surfers. He is going to be in New Zealand to take a level 2 coaching course and we were able to secure him for 10 and 11 November.
Once again the Billabong Pro (29 - 31 January) and Billabong Grom (5 & 6 February) events will be held in Whangamata. This is a fantastic for our Club with our surfers not having to travel and it is also a great fundraising opportunity. Unfortunately we are not hosting a Hyundai Longboard event this year, but hope to run the Beach Hop Longboard again.
Keep an eye out for another Quiksilver/D Bar social night. We are working on a date in November. There will be prizes and raffles again and the new Julian Wilson DVD.
If you have any question or ideas for the club we would love to hear from you.
Don’t forget to send in your membership
Have a great summer with lot’s of surfing!!!
