“Wahine On Waves” was the first of two events to be held in Gisborne Sunday the 14th November at Town Pipe beach, there were over 50 girls getting back in the water after winter.
The morning of workshops was for all levels of ability and ages, we covered the basics, as well as getting out the back and tuning your turns.
We had fantastic conditions with a rising south swell with some strong off shore winds, great for all the levels of surfing wahine!
Gisborne Boardriders Club committee member Fiona Duncan decided to organise the event to support and retain confidence in women surfing in our region.
“It’s great to create an environment where girls can try surfing, or refine their skills without having to worry about whether they have the gear, what someone else thinks of them or whether they will be able to do it or not”.
“Living in Gisborne we have some of the most beautiful and surf friendly beaches in the world, we just need to get out there”!
The next WOW session will be on December 12, registrations at Blitz Surf Shop, Wainui Road.
A big thanks to all the helpers who so kindly volunteered their time to help coach all the wahine.
