Well the schedule of events for the ISA Lost Energy Drink World Surfing Games put us wrong yesterday with Morehu Roberts competing overnight when we said he wouldn't. Unfortunately he placed fourth in what was one of the most stacked heats of the round. He will contest repercharge four where we hope he meets up with the rest of the New Zealand guys. Both AJ Matthews and Zennor Wernham made the first step of that journey this morning as the progressed through their repercharge heats. Wernham was very impressive posting an 8.5 for one wave (sixth highest score of the event) for a heat total of 14.0 points.
The Open Women also hit the water with Mischa Davis and Lisa Hurunui placing second in their first heats to progress to the second round but then came unstuck both placing fourth. They will also contest the repercharge rounds tomorrow. Despite receiving a major laceration to her top lip while training prior to the event and being told by docters not to enter the water, Hurunui fronted up for the team and did New Zealand proud.
As it stands all ten of the New Zealand team members remain in the event. Lets hope they can continue tomorrow (Thursday).
We will stay away from predicting the schedule of events for day four this time around. The ISA are calling all divisions will be in action so Kiwis will be in the water throughout the day and it is possible that the whole team will surf!
