Blustery northerly winds battered competitors at the Second event of Northland Surfing Series held on Sunday 12th May at Forestry Beach, Mangawhai.

Strong northerly winds and a building 1.0-2.0m swell greeted the 40 odd young surfers competing in the event. Initially the contest briefing was held at Mangawhai Heads but with the deteriorating weather conditions it was decided to shift the event to the shelter of Forestry Beach to the south of Te Arai. Surfers taking part were representing various Northland Board Riders Club including Ocean Beach Boardriders, North Coast Boardriders and Mangawhai Junior Surfers.

Conditions were very challenging earlier in the day but as the tide filled in and swell built, some good waves were on offer.
